Another year comes to an end, to be sitting here writing about our own sons memorial fund still doesn’t seem right but we can’t change it so here goes. This year we have screened 500 young people through CRY at a cost of £25,000 We’ve held our biggest fund raising event to date, the Lands End to Bignall End bike ride, which raised just over £20,000. We’ve been on the TV, interviewed on 7 radio stations and had articles published in 8 newspapers / magazines in various regions around the country as we continue to promote CRY and raise awareness of undiagnosed heart defects. We are now CRY representatives and I’ve passed my first years training in bereavement counselling. Locally we are expanding further and have had meetings in Onnelley, Elworth and Leek and we will be building on these in the new year. We have made new friends, attracted new supporters and built on the relationship we have with existing ones, Dan’s memorial fund has grown by £67,000 this year and now totals £188,000 with CRY and a further £35,000 in pledges. We thank everyone for their incredible support and as I’ve said many times, we never take it for granted and every penny we raise goes to CRY to pay for more heart screenings. Looking forward to 2019 we will be screening 600 young people, the sessions are booked and paid for at a cost of £30,000. We are already planning our events for next year and have a few surprises up our sleeves so please keep checking here for details. From Kim, Sue, me and the man himself thank you for the interest you take in what we do and the support you give to us, it’s very humbling and we take great comfort from it. Happy new year and all the very best to everyone
Britannia Stadium-Saturday 30th April
On Saturday 30th April Stoke take on Sunderland at the Britannia Stadium. There will be a group of us with buckets collecting in the lead up to the game, there will also be a video about Cardiac Risk in the Young shown in the ground both before the game and during half time.
We would love to raise £2,000 from this collection to take the overall total raised to date for Dans fund to £40,000, this would be a fitting tribute to Dan as he was a season ticket holder and lifelong supporter of the club, so we couldn't think of a more suitable place to achieve this next milestone!
Darts marathon at the Boughey Arms
We would like to say a big thank you to Terry Selman, her family, the staff at the Boughey Arms and everyone who turned up to play in or support the darts marathon today. There is still money to come in so I will post a total when we have it but it looks like the day will have raised well over £1,000 for Dan’s memorial fund with CRY.
End of the journey and a verry emotional day, we can only echo what everyone else has said ‘amazing achievement ‘ from a fantastic group of special people
