Dan Hughes 7-a-side football tournament.
Football was Dan's passion having played regularly since the age of 10, he captained his team, Alsagers Bank the weekend before he died.
The football tournament is an annual event held at Audley F.C. on the first weekend in June, there are up to 16 teams involved of varying skill levels
2019
12 teams contested the 4th Tournament held on the 2nd of June, the number was reduced as we held the opening of the memorial garden prior to football and there was a concern over the number of people attending. The revised format gave teams finishing third in their group the chance to advance to the quarter finals. Local team Halmerend beat Men Unite 2-1 in the final which meant the Brad Wilson got to lift the trophy for second time.

Congratulations to Audley under 18's on winning the 3rd Dan Hughes memorial shield at Audley F.C. on June the 1st . 16 teams competed for the shield and for the third year running it was decided on a penalty shoot out with Bignall End again being the runners up.Thank you to Adam Clarke, Brian Finney and everyone at Audley F.C. for hosting the event. We raised £1,022 from the day and also received a cheque for £150 from Audley F.C. from the recent beer festival for which we are very grateful.
2017
June the 3rd saw Audley F.C. host the 2nd Dan Hughes 7-a-side football
tournament, this year we invited 16 teams and although we had a few last
minute hick-ups the event ran smoothly and was very well supported.
New teams for this year included Wolstanton, Silverdale, Smallthorne,
Local charity Harp of Gold and a Ladies team managed and captained by
Dan’s sister Kim.

The football was competitve but played in the right spirit and for that we
thank all the lads and girls who took part. There has to be a winner and
this year it is Audley Under 21's Captained by Brad Wilson (pictured
accepting the trophy). The penalty shootout at the end of the final was
epic, unfortunately for the Team from The Plough they came up short but
I'm sure the landlord Pete will nevertire of telling the story of how his
scratch team reached the final!
The event raised over £1,800 and we would like to say thank you to
everyone who helped out on the day especially John & Jeanette Franks
and Paul & Sylvia Mason for running the BBQ on what was a very hot day.
2016
On the 3rd of July we held the 1st Dan Hughes memorial 7 a-side football tournament at Audley Football Club. There were 8 teams taking part on the day including the 3 local teams that Dan had played for (Audley, Bignall-End & Alsagers Bank) the remainder were a team of his mates representing CRY, 2 scratch teams, 1 team of veterans and an under 21 team. The football was keenly contested throughout the afternoon and when we reached the final it was Alsagers Bank & Bignall End who had won through to play for the Dan Hughes shield. The Scores were level at the final whistle so it went to penalties to decide the winners with Alsagers Bank coming out on top.. It was fitting that they won as Dan was captain of the side at the time of his death.
The event was hosted by Audley Football Club
who also very kindly provided the winners shield,
the day was a great success and raised just over £700.
