Dan Hughes 8-a-side Cricket tournament and family fun day.

This is the brainchild of Dave Cooper and Matt Holmes. It was first staged in 2016 and has grown year on year and is now our biggest annual fund raising event. 

2016 Bignall -End Cricket club.

It was a lovely July day for the first tournament, The weather was king to us until the last half an hour when the rain cane as we completed the final which was won by  Audley . There was hot and cold food available, stalls, a bouncy castle, games for the kids and an ice cream man. The cricket was keenly contested between 4 local teams, Bignall-End, Wood Lane, Audley and Betley who were joined by Coops Cavaliers and Homers harriers, 2 teams made up of Dan’s mates. The format is 8 a side with everybody except the wicket keeper bowling an over, batsmen have to retire once they’ve scored 25 runs.

The day proved to be a hit with the locals as well as being thoroughly enjoyed by the cricketers and raised £4,000

2017  Wood Lane Cricket club.

We stared the planning for  this in January as  our intention was to build on the success  of the first year, We added a dedicated children's plat area, an outdoor bar via the Joules beer bus, a gin bar, a Hog roast to compliment the BBQ and local radio station Hitmix 107.5 broadcast live from the ground during the day. We had a special cricket match at lunch time where a team of local "legends" took on a team from Stoke City Old Boys which was captained by John Ruggerio.  Hosts Wood Lane won the memorial shield .

It was another very successful day and raised just over £5,000.

2018 Audley Cricket club.

We were in the middle of the hot summer of 2018 when  we staged this years event. We had  all the attractions we had from the previous year along with the staff from Pear Tree day nursery who set up an activity tent for the youngsters which went down well. Local youth band Pale Kicks performed on the hitmix roadshow stage in the evening. The lunchtime game featured two teams of ladies get involved for the first time. The weather certainly brought people out, the area in front of the pavilion was full almost all day.

Audley came out on top  in the cricket and the day raised over £7,500 for Dan's memorial fund.

2019  Bignall EndCricket club.

Back to Bignall -End  again the 4th fun day and this year we added even more to the day. The normal things were there like face painting the BBQ The Hitmix and Pear Tree day nursery were there  for the youngsters. We added  a play bus, climbing wall and the chance to win a brand new car courtesy of Ken Jervis Kia. The lunch time saw Hughes's legends beat  Robbie Benson's "Benson's Bashers" in a last over decider. People turned out in their hundreds again and the day raised an incredible £9,300.
